Is Glyphosate to Blame for Rising Children’s Cancer Rates in Argentina?

Posted on December 11, 2017 in GMOs, In The News, Pesticides | 541 Views

The German media outlet Deutsche Welle, or DW, has produced a compelling video report called “Glyphosate – The Sick Children of Argentina” about the rise of childhood cancers in Argentina, a country where 300 million liters of glyphosate is applied on GMO crops each year, in particular tobacco, cotton, and soybeans.

Over the last decade in the worst-hit regions, new cancer cases have tripled and the number of newborns born with congenital deformities quadrupled.   “Everyone here is sick,” says one tobacco farmer, “and no one warned us.”

The DW video profiles farm families taking care of sick children, and local activists, doctors, and lawyers working to raise awareness and hold herbicide companies accountable.  View the full video here.  For much more on birth defects and other human health impacts from herbicides, see the Herbicide Use and Birth Outcomes in the Midwest page.
