UK Soil Association and Dr. Benbrook Launch Monthly “Letter from America” Blog Series

Posted on March 12, 2019 in Hygeia's Blog, Organic | 104 Views

The first in a series of monthly blogs by Dr. Benbrook was posted this week to the UK Soil Association’s website.  They are a non-profit supporting sustainable and organic agriculture, who also serve as the primary organic certification body in the UK.

Dr. Benbrook’s first guest blog is called “U.S. must shift towards agroecology.” It draws on Hygeia’s analysis of the recent IDDRI report “Ten Years For Agroecology in Europe.” This report laid out a detailed plan designed to get Europe on track towards a sustainable food system in just a decade.

Europe seems to have a hearty appetite for organic foods, and an approach to regulating pesticides that doesn’t rely so heavily on industry science. Europe is emerging as the leader in the sustainable agriculture movement, with consumers driving progress because of concerns arising from the health impacts of the way we grow, process, and consume our food.

Stay tuned here on Hygeia or at our Facebook page for next month’s “Letter from America.”
